AGING AND RENEWAL

Aging, as a stage of life is an intriguing paradox. It brings physical changes that constrict the body, but it can also free the spirit! That freedom brings acceptance- of one’s self and others. It encourages one to “speak up” and express one’s feelings. It helps to integrate the losses of the past and to fully enjoy the pleasures of the present. Particularly one’s children and grandchildren.

For Judy, growing older has been a time of renewal. It has given her the luxury of time to do the things she “really wants to do,” to appreciate the fine women her daughters have become; and to have had the good fortune to marry another wonderful man.

Aging for Alice, has also been a time of renewal. “My husband married a “50”s wife in the “50”s. Now he has another woman as his wife- and it’s still ME! I did it all- domesticity plus- and enjoyed the role. But, as the children moved on to independence, so did I.”

From “50”s wife to independent woman. Two journeys, different details, but the same experience of aging as a time of growth and renewal.
